Golden eagle pictures – King of the skies in the Swiss Alps

The golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is the king of the skies and one of the most impressive wild animals in the Swiss Alps. As a nature photographer, I have been observing golden eagles in their natural habitat for years, from gliding over the mountain forest to circling in the depths of winter. Every picture is taken with great patience, respect for the animals, and often after long hours in the field. On this page you will find my most beautiful photographs. Golden eagle images from the Bernese Oberland and the Alps, as a fine art print or wall art for your home.

Rulers of the mountains in winter dress – eagles between snow, fog and rock

In winter, the golden eagle reveals its majestic side. Its dark plumage stands out serenely against the snow, fog, and snow-covered forests. Especially during the cold season, when food becomes scarce, the eagles search the slopes for prey and carrion. Many of these golden eagle photos are taken in cold weather and with patience, often in the early morning hours.

Soaring on thermals – gliding flight and wingspan of the king of the skies

With a wingspan of up to 2.2 meters, the golden eagle glides almost effortlessly over valleys and ridges. It uses thermals to gain altitude without flapping its wings and surveys its entire territory from above. These images showcase the power and elegance of one of the largest birds of prey in the Alps in flight.

Aquila chrysaetos in the Bernese Oberland – eagle territories between rock faces, forests and slopes

The Bernese Oberland The Bernese Alps offer the golden eagle large, varied territories with rock faces, forests, and open slopes. Photographs taken in the Bernese Alps capture vast vistas and a true alpine atmosphere. Golden eagle pairs usually remain faithful to their territory for many years.

Eagle's nest and young bird – golden eagle offspring in spring

Golden eagles typically build their large nests on cliffs and repair them repeatedly over many years. The eggs are laid in spring, and usually only one chick survives. The young eagle leaves the nest after about ten to eleven weeks, but is then accompanied and cared for by its parents for several more months. You can recognize young golden eagles by their white wing patches and the white base of their tail.

Wings against the sky – silhouettes of birds of prey in minimalist eagle images

A single golden eagle in a vast, tranquil space, reduced to the bird, light, and sky: these minimalist wildlife images exude a particularly serene atmosphere and are ideal as wall art in modern interiors. The omission of all extraneous details focuses the eye entirely on the eagle's silhouette and wings.

Guardians of the rock faces – Golden Eagle, bird of prey of the Swiss Alps

The golden eagle lives in Switzerland primarily in the Alpine region, where it hunts marmots, chamois kids, and other prey. Their populations are small, and they are sensitive to disturbance. Therefore, all my photographs are taken from a great distance and with respect for the animals.
