Nature and cultural photography between Chichén Itzá, Calakmul and Palenque

The tropical Yucatán Peninsula It is one of the most fascinating regions of Mexico. The peninsula encompasses the three states Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo and is considered the heart of the historical Mayan World. Vast dry forests, mysterious cenotes, spectacular Mayan ruins and idyllic Caribbean beaches offer countless subjects for impressive photography. Mexico pictures and landscape photography.

During our trip we explored colonial cities such as Valladolid and Merida, famous Mayan sites such as Chichen Itza and Mayapán as well as remote rainforest regions around Calakmul. The trip is complemented by idyllic Caribbean beaches near Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres and Cancún.

Chichén Itzá and the great Mayan cities

The most famous Mayan site in Mexico is undoubtedly Chichen Itza. The monumental Kukulcán Pyramid - also El Castillo named after it – is one of the most famous structures of the pre-Columbian world. Other impressive structures include the Warrior Temple (Templo de los Guerreros) as well as the huge ball game stadium.

Other important Mayan cities in the region are Uxmal with the striking Pyramid of the Magician (Pirámide del Mago) such as Mayapán, once one of the last great Mayan metropolises.

Valladolid, Izamal and Mérida – colonial Yucatán

The city Valladolid It closely resembles the image of a typical Mexican small town. Pastel-colored colonial houses, small squares, and cobblestone streets characterize the charming cityscape.
