Patagonia - deserted landscapes & a photographer's dream

The almost deserted Patagonia harbors an incredible natural diversity and extends over both countries Argentina and Chile.

Breathtaking landscapes like the spectacular Andean peaks of the Torres del Paine or the mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, the lush green one Valdivian rainforest and its counterpart in the rain shadow of the Andes: the Pampas. All of this makes Patagonia one of every wildlife photographer's dream destination.

In the land of the araucaria - home of the Valdivian rainforest

The Chilean Lake District is characterized by the temperate Valdivian rainforest, volcanoes, waterfalls, numerous national parks and of course the eponymous lakes. For example the wonderful, two-stage Salto El Léon in the Parque Nacional Villarrica with the picture book of the same nameVillarrica volcano at Pucón or the Llaima volcano in the Parque Nacional Conguillio. The high alercen and the primeval-looking Chilean araucarias, which grew in a similar form at the time of the dinosaurs, also grow here. 

Largest city in the Región de los Lagos is Puerto Montt in the tribal land of the Mapuche Indians. The waterfalls offer more fantastic Chile photos Saltos de Petrohué in the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park with the Osorno volcano in the background. To the north of this is the port city Valdivia. From the coastal town of Calbuco with a view of the active Volcán Calbuco the famous island of Chiloé could also be visited.

Torres del Paine - dream for nature photographers

A true dream of every landscape photographer and nature lover is the wild one Torres de Paine National Park in Patagonia. The park is characterized by the imposing Cuernos del Paine, clear, wild rivers and streams, waterfalls and wonderfully colored lakes. The park is famous for its demanding multi-day treks such as the W Trek, O Circuit or the Q Circuit.

The primitive Wildlife des Torres de Paine contains guanacos, caracaras, condors, rheas, and with a lot of luck you might even see a rare puma. The town is recommended as a starting point Puerto Natales or the southernmost city in the world: Punta Arenas. 

On the way you can stop at Seno Otway Watch Magellanic Penguins. On the opposite Tierra del Fuego near Porvenir in the Bahia Inùtil a colony of king penguins has resettled in the past few years. 

Argentine Patagonia - huge glaciers and striking mountains

From Calafate you should take a day trip to Glaciar Perito Moreno definitely not to be missed. To be able to watch the calving of the huge glacier tongue from close up is undoubtedly one of the photo highlights of Argentina. Hidden in the Andes and in the Los Glaciares National Park is the trekking mecca El Chalten.
