Monkey pictures and great ape photos: My photo highlights

Photographing monkeys in the wild is often a difficult task as many of them live in the rainforest. Little light reaches the motif, thick layers of vegetation often obscure the view and some of them are moving at lightning speed in the high treetops.

Our closest relative: the great apes

Of orangutans in the endangered Leuser ecosystem of North Sumatra. Howler monkeys & spider monkeys in the Amazon rainforest, sacred langurs in the forests and around ancient temples North and Central India, Snow monkeys or Japanese macaques in the Japanese Alps from Honshu to the mighty mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei) in the misty forests of Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. And last but not least, our closest relatives: the chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) in the Kibale Forest of Uganda.
