This gallery shows my most beautiful Red deer pictures. They were created over many years during hikes and observations in the Swiss Alps. Red deer (Cervus elaphus) It is the largest wild animal in Switzerland. For me, it is one of the most impressive subjects of the Wildlife photography, especially in autumn, when the valleys echo with the bellowing of the stags.
Many of my recordings come from the Bernese Oberland, very close to my home. It is particularly well-known for the Justice above Lake Thun, between Niederhorn and Sigriswiler Rothorn. During the Deer rut Here, you can observe and photograph roaring stags in the morning and evening light.
The Hunting reserves The Bernese Oberland contains important retreats for the Red deer. Because the animals are not hunted here, they are often less shy and exhibit their natural behavior. These are ideal conditions for red deer photography.
One of the best areas in Switzerland for the Red deer rut is that Engadine. In the Val Trupchun in the Swiss National Park In autumn, large herds of stags retreat to the open meadows near S-chanf. The valley slopes provide an impressive backdrop, and the bellowing of the dominant stags can be heard throughout the valley.
A strict rule of staying on designated paths applies in the national park. This is precisely why the deer can often be observed from a distance without being disturbed. A telephoto lens and plenty of patience are essential here.
The Rutting season The red deer rut lasts from about mid-September to mid-October. During this time, the Top dog His herd of hinds against rivals. Usually, a bellowing duel or running parallel to each other is enough to test their strength. If neither is willing to give way, it leads to... Fight between two bullsThe deer lock their mighty antlers together and push themselves across the meadow with full force.
Such scenes are among the most spectacular moments of the Wildlife photography in Switzerland. With a bit of luck and the right light, this can create Deer photos full of dynamism and emotion.
Best time: The deer rut takes place from mid-September to mid-October, in the early morning and at dusk.
Equipment: A telephoto lens of 400 mm or more, a camera with a fast aperture, and warm clothing.
Respect for wildlife: Stay on the paths, keep your distance and respect the quiet zones.
