Bolivia

Bolivia pictures: My photo highlights

Bolivia - diversity in the heart of South America

Bolivia is one of the most original and varied countries in Latin America. Nowhere else does the indigenous Indian cultures and traditions seem to have outlasted time so well.

Salar de Uyuni - largest salt lake in the world

The breathtaking Andean highlands Altiplano with the surreal landscape of the salt lake Salar de Uyuni, the red one Laguna Colorada with countless flamingos, the green ones Laguna Verde and numerous other mountain lakes in the middle of one of the driest areas on earth is a highlight of every Bolivia trip. Especially when a little water remains on the Uyuni salt lake during the rainy season and everything becomes a gigantic mirror of the sky, Uyuni offers unique Bolivia images.

From Uyuni we continue by bus into the dreary area Potosíwhich the mines of Cerro Ricco and slave labor once made the richest city in the world. Hardly anything of this shine can be felt today.

Sucre, Santa Cruz, and the Amazon lowlands

The capital of Bolivia is the attractive colonial city Sucre. Because of its white colonial buildings, it is also called the white city.

The country's largest city is located even more in the Amazon basin Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The modern city itself has less to offer, except that you are once again in a very modern big city. However, it is the ideal starting point for tours into the Amazon deep forest via Trinidad on the Rio Ibaré

In particular from Rurrenabaque great jungle adventures can be undertaken. A tour in the great, partly untouched Amazon rainforest of the Madidi National Park or in the marshland Pampas de Yacuma you will hardly be forgotten and with a little luck you will even see an anaconda, tapir, giant otter, capybara or even a jaguar.

La Paz - the highest city in the world

The imposing basin of the breathtakingly high La Paz with the surrounding El Alto has left many visitors speechless. The colorful and bizarre markets like the Hexenmarkt Mercado de Hechicería, the enormous Feria El Alto Sunday market, Cholitas Wrestling and the spectacular views offer numerous typically Bolivian photo subjects. La Paz also serves as a base for the popular and popular notorious Death Road Day tour on Yungas Road mit the mountain bike.

Isla del Sol in Lake Titicaca

The legendary ones lie on the way to Lake Titicaca pre-Columbian Ruins of Tiahuanaco. Little is known about their builders even today. From Copacabana go by boat to the sunny island Isla del Sol in the Lake Titicacawhere the Incas already lived. At this great altitude of almost 4000 m above sea level. the sky seems close enough to touch and there are wonderful landscape photos.
