Turkey pictures: My photo highlights

Cappadocia - Istanbul

In a hot air balloon over the fairytale landscape of Cappadocia

Who has the almost fairytale images of the hundreds of hot air balloons over the semi-desert landscape of Cappadocia not already admired. These pictures are one of the true photo highlights of every trip to Turkey. That's exactly why we wanted the area around Goreme see with our eyes and if possible take part in a balloon flight. Cappadocia is known for its unique tufa formations and the unique "Fairy chimneys", which turn the valleys into true fairytale landscapes. They are a little less known, but no less worth seeing underground cities Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı. Other sights form the Ortahisar rock castle, Nevşehir, Pigeon Valley, Love Valley, Devrent (Imaginary Valley), Ortahisar Castle, the fertile Ihlara Valley and the small town of Avanos.

History-rich metropolis on the Bosporus

With now just under 15 million inhabitants counts Istanbul to the largest cities in the world. The Metropolis on the Bosporus is one of the most popular city break destinations worldwide. The Romans, Greeks and Ottomans left a rich legacy: the city is peppered with palaces, mosques, museums, squares, markets and an authentic old town. In Istanbul the Orient and Occident as well as the two continents of Europe and Asia merge like hardly anywhere else. An excellent example of this is the Hagia Sophia, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site: once a church, then a mosque and now a museum and the city's photogenic landmark. As a result, the city offers a variety of photo highlights.
