There is hardly any group of animals that fascinates me as much as the Big Cats. They combine strength, elegance, and incredible beauty. Among the most famous examples are the... Big cats of the genus Panthera – including the Lion (Panthera leo), the tiger (Panthera tigris), the leopard (Panthera pardus) and the jaguar (Panthera oncaOther fascinating big cats, such as the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus), the puma (Puma concolor) or the mysterious Snow leopard (Panthera uncia) are among the most impressive hunters on our planet.
Each of these cats possesses a unique personality, distinctive behavior, and a fascinating coat pattern. They are among the most spectacular subjects in wildlife photography and have accompanied me on my travels around the world for many years.
These images show Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) from some of India's most famous tiger reserves. They were photographed in the legendary Ranthambore National Park, in the Panna National Park, in the Kanha National Park as in the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh.

The leopard (Panthera pardusThe raccoon is a true master of camouflage. Hardly any other big cat moves so silently and elegantly through its surroundings. Its spotted fur blends perfectly with shadows and vegetation.
In India I was able to see leopards in Panna National Park as in Java observe – a spectacular rocky landscape where leopards live remarkably peacefully alongside the local village communities.
Leopards are among the most impressive photographic subjects in Africa as well. The riverine forests offer particularly good viewing opportunities. Serengeti as well as the South African Kruger National Park.
A particularly rare photographic subject is a leopard on a large... Cactus spurge (Euphorbia candelabrum), also known as Candelabra spurge. These distinctive trees of the African savanna often serve as lookout points or resting places for leopards and offer unique perspectives for wildlife photographers.
Also in Sri Lanka Leopards are among the major highlights. The national parks Yala and Wilpattu These areas offer excellent opportunities to photograph these shy big cats in their natural habitat. It was here that I managed to take one of my best photos of this magnificent feline.
The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is capable of speeds of up to 120 km/h The fastest land mammal on Earth. Its slender build, long legs, and characteristic black tear stripes make it unmistakable.
On safaris in Namibia, South Africa And in the open plains of East Africa, I was able to observe these fascinating hunters on several occasions. Encounters with cheetahs in the vast savannas of the region are particularly impressive. Serengeti or in Tarangire National Park in Tanzania.
Some of the most fascinating big cats are still missing from my collection. Especially the puma (Puma concolor) in Patagonia, the mighty jaguar (Panthera onca) in Brazil Pantanal as well as the mysterious Snow leopard (Panthera uncia) in the high mountains of Central Asia are among my greatest photographic desires for future expeditions.
The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) It is one of the rarest and most mysterious wild animals in Switzerland. Following its reintroduction, the largest European wildcat now roams the forests of the region once again. Juras and the Swiss Alps. Despite its size, the lynx usually remains invisible and is rarely seen even by experienced nature observers.
Encountering a lynx in the wild is one of my greatest photographic dreams. For many Swiss nature photographers, a successful lynx photograph is considered the pinnacle of wildlife photography – and I hope to encounter this fascinating hunter myself one day.
