Peru - the legendary Inca Empire

Rainforest, desert, snow-capped peaks, colonial cities, fantastic cuisine and ruins of bygone cultures - a trip to Peru offers all of this. In search of lost kingdoms from pre-Columbian times like that Incas, Moche or the Chimú. The cities like the splendid one Arequipa testify to the Spanish colonial rule. In contrast to this, Peru offers a multitude of overwhelming natural landscapes that make every photographer's heart beat faster.

Lake Titicaca

At almost 4000 meters above sea level in the Altiplano plateau lies the mighty, deep blue one Lake Titicaca. It is surrounded by Andean peaks up to 6000 meters high. Lies on its bank the town Punowhich as a starting point for the floating reed islands of Uros as well as the Isla Taquille serves. Already in the times of the Incas highest commercially navigable waters on earth a mystical meaning.

Witnesses of the Incas: Cusco & Machu Picchu

Cusco (also called Cuszo) former capital of the Incas Empire is the ideal starting point for excursions to the numerous attractions in the Andean highlands of the holy Urubamba Valley. Even today the city has a lot of primeval charm with its pre-colonial and colonial monuments and sights. Many of them surround the central Plaza de Armas

They are at the gates of the city Ruin of the massive Inca fortress Sacsayhuamán. I.m sacred valley of the Incas (Valle Sagrado) lie many more Inca witnesses like the salt mines of Maras or the Moray Terraces.

The long-lost one lies 2360 meters high in the Andes ancient inca city Machu Picchu. Since her accidental rediscovery on July 24, 1911 by a Yale University expedition led Hiram Binghams the legendary Machu Picchu fascinates people from all over the world. Machu Picchu has become a real must-do travel destination in recent years. 

Amazon lowlands of Tambopata

The tropical Amazon basin lies in the back of the Andes. Of Puerto Maldonado from we visited the lowland rainforest on the Rio Tambopata in the legendary Madre de Dios region. Here you will find largely intact jungle with its incredible biodiversity. At the Lago Sandoval we could Giant otter observe.

Arequipa and Lima - the two largest cities in Peru

After a long drive through the Andes we reach the Arequipa. The second largest city in Peru is located at over 2300 m in the middle of a desert-like region in the south of the country at the foot of several imposing volcanoes, including the conical one El Misti (5821 m) and the Chachani (6075 m). Arequipa is also known as the «White City» because of the houses around the center Plaza de Armas are built from the white volcanic rock Sillar. Arequipa is the ideal starting point for tours in the Colca Canyon with his condors that Nazca Lines or the desert oasis Huacachina.

Lima, the capital of Peru is a modern, fast growing city with over 8.5 million inhabitants. The historic city center is worth seeing - the Plaza de Armas as well as the shopping streets, hawkers, small restaurants and cafes that Centro Historico shape in the center. Lima is right on the Pacific, in the middle of the dust-dry Peruvian desert. UThe cozy Neustadt is located at the seaside Miraflores with lots of shopping opportunities.

Royal tomb of Señor de Sipán: the American Tutankhamun

 

In the north of the country around the cities Trujillo and Chiclayo There is all sorts of exciting things to discover for those interested in archeology with well-kept museums and ruins. The ruins of the mud city are right next to pretty Trujillo Chan Chan, Capital of the pre-Columbian Chimú empire

Also known in the Lambayeque Valley as Valley of the Pyramids, there are numerous other finds from the Moche and Sicán cultures such as the Túcume PyramidsA few years ago the sensational finds of the Señor de Sipan (Herr von Sipán) and the Senora de Cao made, the first is rightly considered a South American Tutankhamun. The royal tomb with his Gold finds is the outstanding specimen from the Sicán culture, which is today in Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipán is presented. This is also in this region Nature reserve Chaparri visit where spectacled bears can be photographed.
