Alaska Pictures: My Photo Highlights

Alaska - The Last Frontier

Cult place Chicken

On the Top of the World Highway Coming from the Yukon one reaches the gold rush cult site as the first outpost of civilization Chicken. The 7-Seelenort seems to be the world champion in the art of self-marketing. At Tetlin Junction the street flows into the famous Alaska Highway, which continues until Fairbanks.

Denali - the big one

The unique wilderness of Denali National Park protects one of the most beautiful landscapes on our planet. On a bus trip to Wonder Lake - with a bit of luck - their residents can like Dall sheep, caribou, elk, grizzly bears, wolves, red foxes and many more to be observed. On a clear day you can see the highest mountain in North America: the Denali, formerly called Mount McKinley. One of the classic Alaska images for any postcard.

Kenai and beyond

The south of the capital Anchorage extends Kenai Peninsula with the coastal town Seward. There a boat tour along the rough coast of the is recommended Kenai Fjords National Park at calving ends Glaciers, humpback whales, orcas, bald eagles, sea otters and sea lions to see.

From Homer, various tour operators offer excursions by seaplane to the national parks on the mainland opposite Lake Clark and Katmaiwhich are famous for their huge Coastal brown bears while fishing Salmon

Wrangell St. Elias National Park - the largest national park in the USA

At the eastern end of the Prince William Sounds is the fishing town Valdezcaused by the sinking of the tanker Exxon Valdez notoriety. From there to the Canadian border stretches the mighty, wild and almost completely undeveloped Wrangell St. Elias National Park with some of the highest mountains in Alaska.

Along the Inside Passage

Also further south, in the so-called pan handle Alaska (Panhandle) falls to those spawning in streams Salmon play a key role in the ecosystem. Here in the humid, wet southeast there is a completely different, friendlier climate and it is growing in moderate rainforest on the countless islands the Inside Passage. This still largely untouched natural paradise brings numerous dream destinations and countless Alaska pictures.

At the northern end are the two towns that arose during the gold rush Skagway and Haines. Haines in particular is known for fishing grizzly bears at the Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Site and the US heraldic animal: the Bald eagle. Two of the most typical photo motifs for Alaska pictures.

The small capital can be further south Juneau can only be reached from the air or water. The is right outside the gates of the town Mendenhall Glacier. At a Whale Whatching Tour I could see humpback whales at the so-called Bubble Net Feeding watch, a unique natural spectacle for great Alaska pictures.

Glacier Bay natural paradise

A little ahead of Gustavus lies the Glacier Bay National Park, which changes greatly due to the retreat of the glaciers and is extremely nutritious hunting grounds for Alaska's wildlife offers. One of the most beautiful natural places I have ever been able to visit and experience moose, black bears and a tree prick up close.

The is further south Tongass National Forest with many wild islands like Admiralty Island and some outposts of civilization. But these are goals for a next trip.

The Hyder Enclave

The enclave is located in the very south-east of Alaska Hyderwhich is connected to British Columbia by the Stewart Highway. The typical small coastal town lives from fishing and some tourism. After all, that is Fish Creek Bear Viewing Area one of the best Bear viewing Places all over Alaska and has given me some grizzly bear sightings as well.

No less impressive is the Salmon Glacier Road to the viewpoint over the mighty Arctic Ocean Salmon Glaciers.
