As a small child I was fascinated by the fauna of East Africa. With a trip to Kenya with my parents then came naturally Dream come true. And it was this trip that got me brought to photography Has. After all, I wanted to record these experiences. Even if I had neither the budget nor the know-how at the time to take good photo equipment and great wildlife photos. So it was a bridge camera with a little more zoom. A few years later I was drawn to Kenya again and with me my first SLR camera with a first travel zoom.
Around 25 km south of the coastal city Mombasa lies Diani Beach with a white sandy beach and palm trees on the Indian Ocean. The ideal place for some unforgettable days on the beach and the starting point for a budget safari to the nearby national parks.
Near the coast lies the wilderness of the giant Tsavo National Park, mostly more semi-desert and bushland than open savannah. The drier, flatter ones extend together Tsavo East and the greener and denser one Tsavo West over 21,812 km² and is therefore half the size of Switzerland. The ecosystem is home to the Big Five, even if the stocks of black rhinos and elephants have unfortunately been drastically reduced due to poaching.
The Tsavo East, with its red, iron ore-rich soil, is home to the famous red elephant of Tsavo. The sensitive skin of the is colored by a mud bath and a dust shower Pachyderms red, which should protect against the sun and insects. Of course one of the dream motifs of a nature photographer on safari!
The Tsavo West National Park contains the green oasis Mzima Springs, the lifeless wasteland of Shetani lava fields, as well as the private game reserve Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and the Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary. Here we witnessed one unforgettable natural moments: A huge one Pride of lions had killed a giraffe in the night and was fed up by the roadside.
Mighty elephants in the African savannah in front of the snow capped summit of Kilimanjaro. Who hasn't seen the classic postcard subject of East Africa? The place of origin of these fantastic pictures is the Amboseli National Park in the south of Kenya directly on the border to neighboring Tanzania.
With its open grassy areas, acacias, swamps and the often dust-dry alkaline Lake Amboseli, it is home to a rich fauna. This includes many species of large animals and is particularly famous for its huge ones Herds of elephantswhich we were also able to marvel at. It is considered one of the last retreats of the so-called Big Tusker, Elephants with huge tusks reaching to the ground. The country is also supported by the Maasai used to water their animals.
Kenya has with the national parks Lake Nakura, Samburu, Naivasha, Nairobi and many others to offer incredible wildlife and fantastic landscapes. The country also offers unique cultural insights into the life of its tribes such as the Maasai or Samburu. The famous one stands everywhere Maasai Mara, the Kenyan part of the Serengeti ecosystem with its wildebeest migration. One of my dream destinations for another unforgettable Kenya trip.
