Borneo Pictures: My Photo Highlights

The beauty of Sabah in impressive nature shots

Experience the fascinating wilderness of Borneo in impressive images

Borneo, one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, delights with lush rainforests, exotic wildlife, and paradisiacal islands. On my journey through the Malaysian state of Sabah I captured spectacular shots of orangutans, proboscis monkeys, sea turtles, and the unique landscape. Discover my Borneo pictures and immerse yourself in the untouched nature of this tropical island.

Pure nature in Sandakan and Labuk Bay

Sandakan is the gateway to Sabah's rainforest. At the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, I was able to photograph the rare proboscis monkeys up close—an unforgettable encounter.

Pulau Seligan – The Island of Sea Turtles

On Pulau Seligan, one of the Turtle Islands, I witnessed firsthand how sea turtles come to the beach at night to lay their eggs – a magical natural spectacle.

Orangutans & Nightwalks: Sepilok and the Rainforest Discovery Center

The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre offers great opportunities to photograph these impressive great apes. Rainforest Discovery Center I was able to photograph not only tropical birds such as hornbills, but also on a Nightwalk fascinating nocturnal animals discover.

Kinabatangan – Wildlife paradise on the river

A river safari in Kinabatangan area is a must for nature photographers. From the Sukau Rainforest Lodge We observed and photographed saltwater crocodiles, Borneo pygmy elephants and countless species of monkeys in their natural habitat.

Gomantong Cave – Home of the Salangans and Bats

Gomantong Cave is not only an impressive natural monument, but also a – truly smelly – habitat for thousands of salangans and bats and millions of cockroaches.

Utan Rainforest – A hidden gem in Sungai Kapur

The little-visited Sungai Kapur area is a real insider tip for photographers. From the Utan Rainforest Lodge I have seen rare animals like the Borneo Walking Cuckoo photographed – a paradise for lovers of untouched nature.

Semporna and the islands of Mabul & Sipadan – Underwater wonders of Borneo

The islands Mabul and Sipadan are among the best diving areas in the world. Here, I was able to photograph colorful coral reefs, sea turtles, and moray eels—a highlight for any nature photographer. Unfortunately, I sank my GoPro =(

Pulau Gaya & Kota Kinabalu – Tropical island feeling

The island Pulau Gaya Kota Kinabalu offers beautiful beaches and dense rainforests. In Kota Kinabalu itself, I was able to capture impressive landscape shots of the sunset over the South China Sea.

Kuala Lumpur & Batu Caves – Contrasts between city and nature

Our journey ended in Kuala Lumpur, where I captured fascinating city photographs. The nearby Batu Caves, an impressive limestone cave with giant statues and Hindu cave temples, offered unique photo opportunities.
