The favorite tour to Santa Fe Island was already booked out, which is why we went to the Daphne Mayor drive. Unfortunately pouring rain is waiting for the five of us for the time being. The Climate change is also noticeable here in the Galapagos. Although the rainy season is about to end, it rains almost every day, which is extremely atypical.

The usual road in the north of the island behind us, we start directly from the ferry port. We're going out to one small extinct secondary volcanowhose peak protrudes barely two meters from the water. All about from Sea lions populated island we start for a half hour snorkeling. What makes for a bit of a thrill, after all, tiger sharks hang around every now and then. But only one of the smaller and much more common White tip sharks, as well as a turtle and a few sea lions can be seen in the wild waves next to a variety of fish.

Blue-footed booby

We drive over to the Daphne Mayor, which we circled yesterday morning in friendlier weather. Again I see one Whitetip shark and a Sea turtle, to many colored fish including species that I have not yet encountered anywhere else. The biodiversity of the Pacific is really impressive.

After almost an hour in the cool water, we are happy to have the short-sleeved neoprene suits. Before a painful encounter with a Mini jellyfish Unfortunately, this could not protect me.

The food package you brought with you is served on board and the guide has a lot to tell. Two weeks ago he was able to observe three orcas on the same tour.

In the meantime pouring rain we reach the wonderful sandy beach to snorkel one last time. Keep in shallow water numerous young fish which move about in large swarms.

We can clearly see them on the beach Sea turtle trackswho went to the beach last night to lay their eggs. A predatory frigate bird therefore stays here and some empty eggshells can be seen.

Then we go on the long way back to Puerto Ayora. After a shower we would like to have reserved a hotel in Quito. But the internet connection on the islands thwarted this plan.

We have agreed to meet again to eat together with them cozy street stalls. For Niki there is fish in garlic sauce, while I order delicious grilled squid. Then we say goodbye to Nicolai, who will be flying straight home tomorrow.
