The former volcanic crater protrudes clearly from the sea and was unique to Birds colonized, which populate the island in large numbers and use it as a breeding ground. We get besides Nasca and blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, various species of gulls, sea lions and red-billed tropical birds to face.

Then we drive in Baltra Harbor and leave the Darwin yacht. The tour was real Great, even if you like the friendliness of the staff and the guide Pato, as well as the choice of route and the program could be improved would be. The fascinating and globally unique nature easily removes this! But the highlight of the trip was clearly the snorkeling in the species-rich underwater world.

We say goodbye to all the other tour participants. At least we will stay in contact with Nina and Tobi. With the Germans Jörg and Tina and the Dane Nikolai we jump on one Bus to Puerto Ayora, everyone else starts their return flight to mainland Ecuador today. Since there is no bus available on Santa Cruz, we share a taxi.

After the luggage is deposited in the hotel, Niki and I march to our office of the LAN airline flight back to Guayaquil adapt to Quito. Which fortunately only costs a small amount and we will gain some time.

At 12 o'clock we have arranged to meet the others again and organize one half day afternoon tour in the bay of Puerto Ayora. Before this starts, there is still time to eat something and put on your bathing suit.

We go to the small one when the weather is cloudy and the sea is rough Islote Caamaño. There we can watch the lounging sea lions, but unfortunately not snorkel with them as expected. We drive to a quieter, sheltered place where we march to an exposed sandy beach. It goes through that whimsical cactus forest. Another is posing on the beach Sea lion and whole hordes of marine iguanas warm themselves in today's scant sun.

Marine iguana

After a short snorkeling stop without any major highlights in the murky water, we march to the Las Grietas.
