We are picked up at the door by Miguel Angel, our 70-year-old driver, at exactly 8:30 a.m. The talkative - of course only Spanish-speaking - retiree\u00a0<b>improves his modest pension with occasional assignments<\/b>.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>Soon after we are out of town, the road gradually begins to climb in the direction of <b>Sierra de Cordoba<\/b>, Forerunner of the mighty Andes. In the meantime we stop in a cafe, where we can enjoy a first grandiose view. After almost two hours we arrive at the national park center and receive information about the planned one <b>Hike<\/b>.<\/div>\n<p><img data-opt-id=157052833  fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5628\" src=\"https:\/\/mlnnzcgf0rm9.i.optimole.com\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/marcelgross.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/2014_12_27_2.jpg\" alt=\"2014_12_27_2\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mlnnzcgf0rm9.i.optimole.com\/w:1170\/h:658\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/www.marcelgross.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/2014_12_27_2.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/mlnnzcgf0rm9.i.optimole.com\/w:600\/h:337\/q:mauto\/f:best\/https:\/\/www.marcelgross.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/2014_12_27_2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<div>For two hours we hike fairly flat on the relatively <b>barren high plateau<\/b> at a height of <b>over 2000 meters above sea level<\/b>. After the initial raindrops, it becomes increasingly sunnier. Pink thistles bloom and stand between sturdy blades of grass. Here too should <b>Cougars<\/b> live and in fact we find a solution which most likely comes from the big cat. Then we reach that <b>Balcon Norte\u00a0<\/b>and soon see the reason for our origins in the distance: <b>Majestic condors circling in the rising thermals over the gorge!<\/b> We have a well-deserved picnic stop and are watched by smaller birds in the hope that something will jump off. Suddenly it floats <b>most powerful airborne bird in the world<\/b> with a <b>Wingspan of over 3 meters\u00a0<\/b>right over us.
