After all, today is the local derby Botafogo FR versus Fluminense FC on the game board. Mainly local players are in the squad of both clubs. The best known is the Brazilian international Fred be. We buy a ticket for 40 rice (approx. 15 francs) and plunge into the fray of the large number of Fulminante fans. Alcohol can no longer be sold two hours before the game, but the black market is flourishing with numerous hawkers. During occasional police checks they all flee, but come back soon. The extremely strong presence of the police is generally noticeable. Otherwise there is a lot going on here and we hardly know where to look.

Then we want to go to the stadium. Just a few months ago, the superlative was found here in this stadium World Cup final instead of. The previously rather dilapidated Maracanã was extensively renovated and hardly differs from a new building. Everything is perfectly organized, but unfortunately hardly anything is labeled in English. Coming soon Mood on in the arena, which is nowhere near sold out. At both clubs, the demands and reality currently do not quite meet expectations. An animated game will soon begin with numerous, sometimes negligently missed opportunities. Fluminense clearly has more parts of the game, but is not able to convert them into counters. Every action is critically commented, there is cheering and cursing, in any case we are glad not to understand everything. When the red-black-playing Fluminense takes the lead after all, Half the stadium is upside down. Incredible, everyone simply participates here, there is no place for restraint. From toddlers to grandmothers, everyone screams their lungs out. After the end of the game, the fan squad turns into a real triumph and you could almost think Fluminense has just become champions.

The police presence after the game is immense, a man's bag has probably been stolen, otherwise it remains quiet. We're going back to Copacabana by subway. There we have a burger late at night and then go to bed after the eventful day.

Tour through the colorful Santa Teresa district

Enjoy the view over the city from the Parque das Ruinas

Visit the colorful Escadaria Selarón

Match visit in the legendary Estádio do Maracanã

After the usual breakfast at Claudio and Lucy's, we briefly buy more fruit before we take a taxi to the Largo do Guimarães in the heart of the neighborhood Santa Teresa. The neighborhood is considered the coziest of all of Rio with its small colored houses.
