We buy herring for the tent and drive off. The first stop is the Visitors Center where we will book a floating tour on the Snake River for tomorrow evening. Right next door is a bull elk in the grass, what a start. At Jenny Lake we stay in one of the last free tent places, erect the tent and eat. Then we start hiking towards Hidden Falls. Unlike a month ago, the path is now mostly free of snow, but just as heavily frequented. We climb higher to the Inspiration Point, which was not accessible a month ago, and let our gaze wander over the wide Teton Valley and Jenny Lake. For the very first time I have to put on my rain jacket. The little showers were short lived and soon the sun will return.

Fortunately, however, the migration of peoples has decreased significantly here and we enjoy the peace and quiet and nature. The path leads up the idyllic valley of the Cascade Canyon. Floodplains alternate with rapids. Suddenly there is a white-tailed deer not far from us, which does not allow itself to be moved at all. Soon afterwards we also see a mighty elk cow.

Again thick clouds have come up and a thunderstorm is announced. And what one! It hails as much as it can. When it slowly stops after more than 10 minutes, the forest floor is white with hailstones and the ground is really steaming. We march down to the landing stage and let the water taxi take us back to the campground.

There we make a fire and prepare dinner. When we want to do the dishes, suddenly a huge Wapitibul is standing by the neighboring tent. What an impressive animal. The stag marches calmly through the campground and we take some photos.

Then we drive to Moose and from there we drive along the road to Wilson in the hope of seeing more animals. At a small increase we stop, unpack the camping chairs and wait. For a long time nothing happens, but then we see an owl and other elk. Finally we drive back to the campground, make another campfire before we move into the tent.

First bull moose seen

Hiking to the Hidden Falls and further into the wonderful Cascade Canyon

First elk bull seen right next to our tent

So today we're heading back to Grand Teton National Park.
