After a serving of Kellogg, we head south via Pinedale and Farson to Rock Springs. The road, initially surrounded by wooded hills, runs more and more through dry, wide plains and is not particularly attractive. True to the motto the journey is the goal, we continue the journey.

After a short interstate stretch from Rock Springs to Green River, we head south on the 530 along the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. The landscape becomes a little more hilly again, but remains very dry. A few times we stop at lookout points where we look down to the reservoir and the red rocks that give this area its name. How black bears, elk, elk and puma are supposed to live in this area remains a mystery to us. From Manila, Utah, we drive through the Ashley National Forest, which is greener and wooded again, because it is also higher up. From 2500 meters above sea level at the top of the pass, you go down serpentines to Vernal, the largest settlement far and wide. We stay at the Sage Motel for one night. It is humid and hot and quite cloudy. We relax, shower, wash, Oli is watching TV and I finally set up my travel blog thanks to the WiFi. We only go out again for dinner, there is a Mexican restaurant right next door.
